Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
Deep Tissue Massage…Focuses on posture, pain and injuries related to daily living and activity. This style of bodywork targets a specific area of concern in order to bring balance to the whole. Techniques include myofascial release allowing for greater circulation and flexibility, trigger point therapy to decrease muscle tension, and cross fiber friction to break up scar tissue and realign fibers thereby increasing strength. Stretching techniques might also be used to help lengthen hypertonic muscles.
Myofascial Release…Fascia is a tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. Trauma, posture or inflammation can create a fascial restriction resulting in compression on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, osseous structures and/or organs. The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach consists of a gentle application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions. This type of approach uses an essential “time element” that has to do with gentle pressure being applied slowly, which will allow the viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.
Integrative Massage…A blending of massage techniques into a unique session entirely customized to you. This is the perfect choice for those who need minimal deep tissue therapy but also want a relaxing whole body approach.
Medical Massage…This session uses techniques to reduce pain, establish normal tissue tension, create a positive tissue environment and normalize the movement of the musculoskeletal system. Medical massage therapy is applied to areas relating to the diagnoses provided by your physician.
Swedish Massage…Focuses on relaxation and recovery of the physical body. Swedish therapeutic massage increases circulation throughout the body, allowing for increased absorption of nutrients and removal of buildup in the muscles.
Pregnancy Massage…Focuses on reducing stress and increasing relaxation, decreasing edema, increasing energy; decreasing musculoskeletal strains; decreasing stress on joints, and enhancing flexibility.
Pediatric Massage…Massage for children has many benefits, especially in reducing anxiety and chronic pain. A variety of techniques are used to achieve these goals.
Hot Stone…Involves heated basalt stones placed on ones body in a specific spot or held in the therapists hands while performing massage strokes. The use of hot stones can help to promote relaxation in muscles & joints, ease pain and promote circulation.
Reiki…Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki translates as universal life energy. This energy is channeled through the practitioner to the client by laying the hands on or above the body, allowing the energy of life to flow through the hands to the person being treated. Reiki treatment is nourishing to the mental, emotional, and physical.
